Conference Travel Bursaries 

NAEEA is pleased to offer $500 travel bursaries to support up to four (4) academics or post-graduate students working/studying in the field of Enabling / Foundation / Bridging education to attend the 2026 NAEEA conference in Perth, Western Australia.

Participating in the NAEEA conference is an opportunity for staff / post-graduate students to present their Enabling research or practice, network with experienced scholars, and learn from colleagues.

To be eligible for this award, nominees must be:

  • Financial members of the National Association of Enabling Educators of Australia (NAEEA) 
  • Will incur travel costs (e.g. flights, accommodation) that are not being covered by their university
  • Currently teaching and/or researching in the field of Enabling / Foundation / Bridging education
  • Planning to attend and present research or practice at the 2026 NAEEA conference in Perth 

The conference grant can be used to support conference registration, travel or accommodation of the successful applicant. 

Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Are early career academics within the first five cumulative years of academic employment, OR a post-graduate student 
  • demonstrate financial hardship (e.g. geographical location, personal circumstances etc)
  • have had limited opportunities to present at NAEEA or related educational conferences
  • will attend and participate in the full conference
  • have an accepted conference presentation based on their research, project or practice
  • are the first author and will lead the presentation at the conference

Priority for at least one grant will be given to applicants identifying as Indigenous/First Nations (e.g. Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Māori or Pacific Nations).

Applicants must also submit a supporting letter from their line manager/research supervisor, including a statement indicating that the applicant complies with the criteria. The upload link will be displayed at the end of the application form.

NAEEA Teaching Excellence Award 2026

To be eligible for this award, which celebrates and recognises excellent teaching within the Enabling subsector in Australia, nominees must be financial members of the National Association of Enabling Educators of Australia (NAEEA). Teaching awards will be announced at the 2026 NAEEA conference in Perth, Western Australia (2-4 December 2026). The winning applicant will receive prize money (e.g. Visa gift card) of $500.

Nominees are required to submit a letter* of nomination that includes the following:

1. A statement of a personal philosophy** of learning and teaching that aligns with the Enabling education ethos (200 words)

    2. A reflection of the nominee’s teaching context and practice that demonstrates how the learning and teaching philosophy (in 1.) is evidenced by:

    a. motivated and inspired student learning that has positively impacted on student engagement and the overall student experience. (600 words)

    b. mastery within the nominee’s discipline area (e.g., Mathematics, Academic Literacies, etc.) in relation to Enabling education, through imaginative and/or innovative approaches and practices (600 words).

    c. learning and teaching approaches that are grounded in current scholarly literature on teaching and learning to inform the development of initiatives, programs and/or practice. (600 words).

    Nominees should include concrete examples of activities, outcomes and impact. A strong application will be supported by brief evidence from, for example, teaching or unit surveys, student testimonials, teaching observations or peer/leader feedback.

    The nomination letter will need to be signed and dated by the nominee and their unit head.

    3. A 1-page curriculum vitae (CV).

    Shortlisted nominees may be invited to an interview.
